Audi has announced plans for its first production site in the United States, in Georgia. Its release dated 25 October 2026 outlines investment of around $4 billion and approximately 4,500 planned jobs. The proposed facility is to be designed for annual capacity of up to 200,000 vehicles. This is a future investment programme, not an opening of a completed factory.
Construction and production are separate stages
Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027, with production planned for the early 2030s. These dates describe different phases. A construction start does not mean vehicles will leave the line in the same year. Both milestones are the manufacturer's plans rather than completed outcomes or an unchangeable delivery promise.
Audi says local production is intended to support premium SUVs tailored to North American customers. This article follows the scope of the announcement without adding unconfirmed powertrains, model-by-model production figures or an export programme to Turkey.
Why Georgia?
The manufacturer points to the Middle Georgia Mega Site's readiness, workforce, supplier network and logistics. It also describes room for future expansion. These are Audi's stated reasons for its location choice, not findings from an independent cost comparison.
Designed capacity is different from actual annual output. A target of up to 200,000 vehicles does not establish that the plant will reach that number in its first year, or that the same number will be sold. Likewise, the jobs figure is a planned employment level, not a count of positions already created.
A local production strategy for North America
Audi describes an ambition to make North America a third major pillar of its production network alongside Europe and China. Local manufacturing is part of the stated US product and competitiveness strategy. Its implementation should be followed through subsequent official updates.
25 October is the publication date of Audi's statement. This report does not say that investment has been completed or manufacturing has begun. Nor does it establish a direct change to Turkish prices, model origins or deliveries. Concrete next developments would include construction actually starting, a definitive product programme and further information on production commissioning.
