Toyota’s European battery-electric sales rise 136% in nine months

Toyota Motor Europe (TME) announced combined Toyota and Lexus sales of 936,042 vehicles for January–September 2026. The official results released in October show total sales increasing by 0.6%, while battery-electric sales rose 136% to 104,832. These are regional European figures, not totals for the Turkish market.

Battery-electric sales differ from the electrified total

Toyota’s tables give 813,623 electrified vehicles, representing 87% of sales. That category includes hybrids. The number powered solely by a battery is 104,832. Describing the 87% share as the proportion of fully electric cars would therefore be incorrect.

A simple calculation using the published totals puts battery-electric vehicles at approximately 11.2% of regional sales: 104,832 divided by 936,042. This does not replace the manufacturer’s 87% figure covering several electrified powertrains. The two measures answer different questions.

C-HR+ and bZ4X sales

Toyota-brand sales reached 873,445 in the nine months. Its battery-electric sales increased 151% to 98,148. The announcement lists 29,616 C-HR+ vehicles and 26,270 bZ4X vehicles. Lexus recorded 62,597 total sales, with a reported 47% increase for its all-electric RZ.

The photograph in this article is a real official press image of the 2026 Toyota C-HR+. It illustrates a model mentioned in the results; it is not presented as a handover ceremony or the day a car left the factory. The results do not establish that the photographed specification is sold under the same name and with identical equipment in every European country.

The reporting period and publication date

The results cover the first nine months of 2026; they do not include all October sales. The official press page shows 21 October 2026 at the top, while the text’s Brussels dateline says 22 October 2026. We retain that one-day discrepancy and describe it as an October announcement, clearly identifying the sales period as January–September.

Growth rates help track the brands’ reported regional performance, but do not by themselves describe changes across the whole market. Without total sales for all brands and market-share data on the same basis, these results cannot establish overall European electric-vehicle market growth. Nor are they a direct indicator of demand, delivery times or prices for a specific model in Türkiye.
