Toyota Racing secured the World Endurance Championship manufacturers’ title with a one-two finish in the 6 Hours of Barcelona on 18 October 2026. According to Toyota’s official announcement of 19 October, the result delivered the team’s eighth manufacturers’ world championship. The drivers’ title remains undecided ahead of the final race.
The No. 8 car takes victory
The No. 8 Toyota TR010 Hybrid shared by Sébastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley and Ryō Hirakawa won the 198-lap race. The No. 7 car driven by Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and Nyck de Vries finished second. The official announcement gives the gap between the cars at the finish as 0.583 seconds.
Barcelona was Toyota’s fourth victory of the season. Strong results from both cars also provided the points advantage needed to secure the manufacturers’ championship. The outcome matters not only as a win for one car but also for how the combined performance of the two crews contributed to the manufacturers’ standings.
The drivers’ championship is still open
After Barcelona, the No. 8 drivers lead the No. 7 crew by 17 points. The next and final round is listed as Monza on 8 November 2026. Securing the manufacturers’ championship should therefore not be interpreted as winning the drivers’ title on the same day. Toyota’s statement treats the two standings separately.
In endurance racing, several drivers share a car, placing teamwork at the centre of the result. A small finishing gap does not, on its own, explain the pace throughout the race. Without a full lap chart and strategy account, we are not drawing a firm conclusion about technical superiority from a close finish.
Race cars and road cars need separate treatment
The Hypercar-class racing car and circuit result discussed here are not measurements of a road car’s consumption or everyday performance. Using hybrid technology in racing also does not mean that any production Toyota has the same powertrain. Comparisons with road cars must account for separate homologation rules and operating conditions.
The Barcelona outcome marks a significant point in the season, closing the manufacturers’ contest before Monza while leaving the drivers’ battle open. The remaining question for spectators is how the gap between the leading crew and its team-mates will develop at the finale. This article reports only the announced result and the timetable in the statement; it does not predict the final outcome.
